What to do for a special birthday that falls on a Sunday especially if you miss the good old English Roast Dinner ? Well we decided to give the Relais de Coche a try up in Tourrettes sur Loup. We had a look at the website online and emailed the restaurant to book our table. It is very popular for Sunday lunches so you need to do this well in advance.

They run two sittings for Sunday lunch, 12 midday for families and 2:30 for those without kids.

We of course opted for the midday sitting and set off on a Sunny and warm November morning. Unfortunately our emailed confirmation didn’t actually seem to have made it to the reservations book but as we arrived just before midday there was plenty of room to accommodate us.

The weather was so great on arrival that we opted for the outdoor terrace and basked in the sunshine over an aperitif and of course being outside means that you don’t have to worry so much about the kids sitting really still.

Particular attention has been given to make the restaurant feel chic and homely at the same time. Our table was a great size for the 4 of us with a little extra table to the side that held the sauces and condiments giving us extra elbow room at the table

The adults opted for the 3 course set menu: One full English style roast with soup starter, Roast Main and Chocolate pudding. The vegetarian was soup, Roast main without the meat (!) and the pudding and the children shared a kid’s set menu of Main and pudding.  The salmon was unfortunately not available so they too opted for a children’s roast.

The Parsnip soup starter was heavenly and the kids helped us polish that off. The Roast Menu was very appetising .. the vegetarian option was still lovely but you always feel you are missing something when you just have extra vegetables …the kids sat quietly and wolfed down their roast. We washed this down with a glass of Chablis and kicked back to really enjoy the lunch.

Our total bill for 3 meals and drinks all round was 107 Euros
